Merry Christmas HCGC members.
As this busy year is winding down I hope all of you have had a great year. It looks like next year will be better than this one with new events added to the calendar.
The next BOG and General Membership meeting is January 2nd. All members are encouraged to attend. Dues are due and must be paid by December 31st in order to avoid a penalty charge.
This year we will be changing the locks on all the club facilities. I have had new locks made that will allow you to open all the locks you have access to with just one key. I will be sending out new membership cards and keys at the end of this month but will not change the locks until sometime early in January so keep your old keys until the locks get changed.
Tyler McCutchen has started up the Three-Gun matches and he has brought a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm to this venue. His matches utilize the pistol and rifle bays including the 600 yard range for some long range shooting. Check it out!! His matches will be held on the fourth Saturday of the month. He will skip this December since it is Christmas Eve but will pick it back up in January. Contact Tyler for more information wtmccutcheon@gmail.com
Also on the fourth Saturday next year will be the High Power Rifle events being run by Tony Lacy. This match is shot from 200, 300, and 600 yards on the 600 yard range. Tony uses the NRA/CMP High Power format for this match and this year the matches are going to be sanctioned by the CMP so the shooters can earn points toward their Distinguished Rifleman’s Badge. The first match will be in February and will be a John C. Garand and Vintage Sniper Rifle Match. Contact Tony for more information james.lacy@us.army.mil
The second Saturday we have our IDPA matches. This is the match I run and we have had a great year. We shoot year around and almost every month we have new shooters at these matches. It is wonderful to see new shooters come into this exciting sport. If you haven’t tried it yet, you do not know what you are missing. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. We welcome all skill levels and promise to help you improve your pistol shooting. This match will help you gain confidence in your ability to shoot accurately. One other benefit to shooting your pistol regularly is that you find out how to handle malfunctions and other problems that may occur at the worst possible moment. Contact me for more information s_vaughn@bellsouth.net
The third Saturday will be the Benchrest Rimfire being match run by David Stubblefield. This match is for rimfire rifles and is shot from a benchrest at 50 yards. The target is a bullseye style target with 10 bulls and 2 sighter targets and must be shot in ten minutes. The match consists of five targets for a total of 50 record shots. Any type of rest is allowed as long as the rest is not attached to the bench and the rifle is not attached to the rest. There is a class for semi-automatics and levers and a class for bolt guns. Any .22 rimfire factory ammo is allowed. David also runs the Kimber 82G (aka “Rusty Kimber”) matches and these are held on the ???? Tuesday at ????? PM. Contact David for more information tsmicro@bellsouth.net.
Vernon Anderson has scheduled three ATA trapshoots this year. April 7th, May 5th, and September 8th. Please contact Vern and offer to help him with the match. It takes several people to run a successful trapshoot and Vern will appreciate all the help he can get. vray@nwcable.net
We had our first ever Tactical Rifle match this month and it was a huge success. Fourteen two man teams competed, shooting at targets as close as 75 yards and as far away as 705 yards. The targets ranged in size from 12″ square steel plates to golf balls. Yes, I said golf balls!! Jerry, David, Randy, Billy, Scott, & George did a superb job of setting up and running the match. I learned that I have a lot to learn and I can’t wait for the next match.
Informal Skeet shoots on Tuesday and Trap on Thursday as usual.
Expect to see some Appleseed events added to the calendar at the January meeting. If you really want to learn how to shoot a rife accurately at long distance this is an excellent and inexpensive way to do it.
Elections were held at the November meeting and the following officers were elected to serve the club for the next year: Jerry Hunt: President, George Rob: Vice-President, David Stubblefield: Treasurer, Steve Vaughn: Secretary.
Board of Governors elected were: George Holderer, Bill Sanders, Randy Mathis, Vernon Anderson, Richard Davis, & Scott Rob. Welcome new BOG members George, Richard, and Scott to the Board. Our club will benefit from the expertise that these members bring to the BOG.
David Foy and John Paul decided to retire from the BOG. Please let them know that you appreciate their service to the club
Please remember that this club is an all volunteer organization. Most of the BOG members have real jobs and serve this club in their spare time. If you see something that needs to be done, do it. If the trash cans need emptying then please empty them, if something is broke and you can fix it, them please do so. If you need to spend a small amount of money to fix something just send the receipt to David Stubblefield and he will reimburse you.
Your BOG thanks you for your continued support and encouragement. Our desire is to make this the best gun club in the area and provide as many different shooting disciplines as the members want and will support. Without you supporting the club and the varied shooting opportunities and helping out the match directors we wouldn’t be able to provide nearly as many shooting opportunities for your enjoyment. If you have any ideas or suggestions for club improvement, just let us know.
Steve Vaughn, Secretary, HCGC
